WELCOME TO RYSZARD POREBSKI'S GALLERY.
Note about the Author:
Ryszrad Porębski was born on October 9, 1949 in Rybnik, Poland. He studied at the Łódź Academy of Art and received his diploma at the Faculty of Printmaking in 1978. He has participated in numerous joint, as well as individual exhibitions, and has remained a member of The Association of Polish Artists and Designers since 1979.
Ryszard Porębski is a painter. Painting is what he does; it’s his profession and his mind-set. He perceives and assimilates the world around him through painting. He adores old art, its artifacts and the beauty sealed within them. He loves the Baroque. It is a constant and reciprocated affection. The presence of Baroque items in his still life paintings: decorative, religious, as well as those of everyday use, seems to constitute an homage to that period’s aesthetics. At the same time, he expresses himself through his art in an autonomous and conscious manner. These paintings are compositions created according to modern concepts of painting; they don’t want to imitate Baroque still life, nor be pastiches. This aspiration is also confirmed by his way of painting Baroque models themselves, which does not rely on a passive depiction of items for the sake of depicting them, but retains the general, essential description of the light, color and shape, so that they become elements of the whole. For the artist, this whole is the picture. The symbolism linking periods a long time apart is of supreme value in Ryszard Porębski´s art, locking the past within the confinements of a present day painting.
